Car users entering the site are met with a Vehicle Messaging System that communicates messages about car park availability on site. This is extremely useful during peak trading seasons when the number of vehicles on site is at its highest and allows customers to find car parking spaces more easily.
The Trafford Centre‘s car parks have been designed to offer a safe and secure environment for customers. The Centre has been awarded the Park Mark Award (previously called the Secure Car Park Award) every year since 1999. This award is initiated by The Association of Chief Police Officers and demonstrates a commitment to continuous progress in the reduction of car crime through a documented car park management system.
The Trafford Centre also invested in a state of the art Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system in 2003 to further improve the safety of the Centre. The initiative was launched in conjunction with Greater Manchester Police to detect and locate vehicles associated with crime.
The system utilises some of the most advanced technology in the world to identify stolen vehicles or those listed as wanted for a variety of crimes. Within seconds of entering the site, the registration of all vehicles are verified and checked against the Police National Computer. If a vehicle is recognised by the system an alarm is sounded in the Control Room and the police are contacted.
The presence of the ANPR system makes The Trafford Centre even safer for customers, retailers and employees as it acts as a deterrent to criminals who may be thinking of visiting the site.
